In the mid-'80s I was part of obscure Brit soul act Hot House, whose lead singer was Heather Small of later M-People fame. Subsequently, I have produced music for television and other media, and I'm currently working with Martin Colyer as part of the Backhouse Boys, an exploration of lo-fi post-roots fun and nonsense.

I am also a partner, along with Martin Colyer, in RedTop Graphics. We specialise in the design and implementation of websites with a particular focus on clients from the Arts world: photographers, architects, painters and illustrators. We aim to produce sites that are simple and elegant, with an emphasis on ease of use without resorting to complicated technologies (Flash etc.).
In the summer of 2003, I curated and designed the exhibition Yes Yes Y'all, a celebration of the first decade of hip hop. Taking the story from hip hop's birth in the Bronx in 1973 to the rise of Run DMC ten years later, it included many superb photographs, and the story was told in the words of the participants. Additionally there was a strong multimedia component, and the exhibition was supplemented by many live performances by MCs, DJs and Breakdancers. The show ran from October 2003 to January 2004 at The Hospital, Covent Garden, a new arts and media space.

I am a director of Rock's Backpages, THE online library of music journalism from the early '60s to the present day. Co-founded by leading music journalist Barney Hoskyns, RBP has become a primary research tool for the media and academe. It currently contains a searchable database of over 5,000 articles about acts from ABBA to Zappa written by the best music journalists including Greil Marcus, Mick Farren, Nick Hornby, Lester Bangs, Lenny Kaye and Richard Williams.

As a photographer, I specialise in portrait work, primarily of writers on behalf of publishers. Clients include Bloomsbury, 4th Estate and many other publishers both in the UK and worldwide. Additionally, I have worked with architects, photographing spaces as they are used by visitors.
